FAMILY SERVICES Many family members are negatively affected mentally, emotionally and spiritually by the disease of the addict, and do not realize it. In order to help the family understand themselves better in the areas of the addict and the family in recovery, Impact professionals have developed a six-week Family Group Series, which includes: WEEK 1 Introduction Lecture: "The Nature of Chemical Dependency" (Denial; Addiction; Signs and Symptoms) This lecture focuses on the nature of chemical dependency. WEEK 2 Lecture: "The Addiction Model" Discussion: A guest speaker engages guests in a discussion of the progression of the disease of addiction and highlights the obsessive, compulsive and spiritual aspects of addiction. WEEK 3: Lecture: "The Nature of the Solution" Film: "Father Martin on the 12-Steps" Discussion: A film presentation followed by a lecture, which introduces family members to the 12-Step program of recovery. WEEK 4: Lecture: "The Family Disease Concept" Film: "The Family Trap" Discussion: A film presentation followed by a lecture, which explores how the entire family system is affected by addiction. WEEK 5: Lecture: "Developing Healthy Relationships." Film: "Family Sculpting" Discussion: The lecture begins with a film and is followed by a discussion on relationships. WEEK 6: Lecture: "Recovery, Resources and Guest Panel." Discussion: This final presentation of the six-week series introduces guests to the various community resources, which are available and designed to facilitate family recovery (i.e. 12-Step Programs for family members).
