On May 21st, families, alumni, patients, and staff came together to celebrate a remarkable milestone: the graduation of more than 50 individuals from the Impact program.
For many of our graduates, recovery once felt out of reach. Yet on this day, they stood tall before their loved ones and their community, proud of the accomplishments behind them, and looking forward to a new way of life.
Impact CEO Christina Gonzales kicked off the event with a powerful statement on the freedom that comes with recovering: “Freedom is being able to look people in the eye again. Freedom is waking up without panic. Freedom is rebuilding trust with your kids, your parents, your partner, and most importantly, yourself. Freedom is not having to rehearse lies before you walk into a room. And what I love most about graduations is this: Everybody here knows exactly how hard that is.”
Through the 12 Steps, honest self-reflection, and support from those around them, Impact’s newest graduates have chosen a new path rooted in accountability and purpose.
Gonzales continued: “Now looking back, you understand why boundaries mattered. You understand why structure matters... Recovery is not about stopping drugs or alcohol. It's about learning how to live responsibly, honestly, and safely in every area of your life.”
Graduation is often thought of as an ending, the completion of one chapter before another begins. At Impact, it is also a celebration of progress. It marks the work already done, while honoring the ongoing journey ahead. Recovery is not defined by a single ceremony or milestone. Instead, it is built day by day, decision by decision, through perseverance, community, and the willingness to keep moving forward even when the path is difficult.
That is what made this celebration so meaningful. Families witnessed healing, and staff had the privilege of seeing their hard work pay off for the patients that they have grown to love like family. The graduates were able to pause, recognize the strength it took to arrive at this point, and celebrate how far they’ve come with those that saw them at their lowest.
One graduate, Erika Strauss, who is now a staff member at Impact, shared: “I’m proud to be a part of this team... I’m proud to be a part of you guys and grateful that you are a part of me too. Every day I show up and I’m just happy to be here.”
Events like this shine a light on what is possible for every person currently in the program, and every loved one supporting them. Most of all, they highlight the fact that no one walks this road alone, and Impact will always be there to support them on their journey.
As graduates step into this next stage of their recovery journey, Impact remains committed to walking with them. We are proud of each graduate for the work they have done, and we look forward to seeing them continue to grow and rebuild their lives.
